Belicia Tulip

Belicia is a charming multi-flowering tulip that produces several blooms from a single stem, creating the appearance of a miniature bouquet in the garden. About Double Tulips

Planting & Growing Information

Plant tulip bulbs in fall once soil temperatures have cooled, ideally when nighttime temperatures are consistently around 40-50°F. Tulips require a period of winter cold to produce their best spring flowers.

Choose a location with full sun to light shade and well-drained soil. Avoid areas where water tends to collect, as tulip bulbs do not tolerate sitting in wet soil.

Plant bulbs approximately 6 inches deep with the pointed end facing upward. For garden displays, bulbs can be spaced approximately 4-6 inches apart. For dedicated cut-flower production, tulips can be planted much more closely together.

Water thoroughly after planting. In most climates, normal fall and winter precipitation will provide adequate moisture until growth begins in spring.

For Cut Flowers

Double tulips make spectacular cut flowers. For the longest vase life, harvest when the buds are fully colored but have not completely opened.

Tulips continue to grow after they are cut, and their stems naturally bend and move toward light. This movement is part of their charm and gives arrangements a wonderfully relaxed, garden-inspired appearance.

Are Tulips Perennial?

While tulips are technically perennial bulbs, many of today's highly bred varieties, including many double tulips, perform most reliably when treated as annuals. Gardeners may leave bulbs in the ground to return the following year, but flower size, stem length and overall performance can vary in subsequent seasons.

For the largest, highest-quality blooms, we recommend planting fresh bulbs each fall.
